The President’s Corner
2010 was a busy year for us at Historic Langhorne Association. In January and February we were busy shoveling the record snow fall. In March we presented a combination program on the history of the Richardson House along with a “Then and Now” program on the Arnold Brothers Postcards of Bucks County. Our April program was a presentation of images from the Edward & Marguerite Vogenberger collection. The month of May included a Victorian Tea fundraiser along with a Memorial Day display and open house during Langhorne’s parade. June included fresh strawberries and ice cream at our annual Strawberry Festival. We were also open with a display during the LBBA Car Show. In September we participated in the Ancestry Fair at the Bucks County Visitor’s Center with information from our archives and genealogy. Our September program was an antique appraisal with representatives from Stephenson’s Auctioneers on hand. Our program in October was given by Mr. William Macht on the History of Neshaminy School District. Throughout the month of October we ran Ghost Tours of Langhorne Borough and then on the 30th we participated in the annual Old Langhorne Harvest Day in town. In November we presented a display of antique quilts during the Langhorne Garden Club’s annual Holiday House Tour. As of this writing, we are eagerly awaiting Santa’s visit on the 19th of December in our building for all of the children in the area. That evening we will have a carol sing and a reading of “Twas The Night Before Christmas” for the children. We have other displays and things happening in between our regular programs. Be sure to stop in often to see what is new.
Periodically we send out an email to our friends and neighbors notifying them of upcoming events at Historic Langhorne Association. If you are not currently receiving these emails and would like to be included on the list, just send us an email or call with your name and email address for inclusion.
This years Ghost Tours were a success. Many thanks to our excellent team! Our tour guides are: Jen Deeny, Beth Connolly, Judy and Julie Beck and Kathy O’Brien. Tickets sales were performed by Kari Thomas, Kami Miller, Nancy McCabe, Donna Thomas and Deborah Schaffer, the staff at Will Travel, Inc. Donna Thomas was kind enough to allow our tours inside her building and explain the haunting that occurs there. Mike Jesberger is our Revolutionary Soldier who stands guard over the Cemetery and explains the history.
2010 also saw the completion of a long running project for HLA. Our handicapped accessible entrance project was begun by my predecessor, Jean Noble about 5 or 6 years ago. The site prep work and driveway were completed this past spring. The handicapped lift unit was installed recently which only leaves the planting of a few shrubs in the spring to complete this entire project.
Thank you to all who support Historic Langhorne with your time, efforts and contributions. My fellow board members and I look forward to providing many more informative programs on local history and our environs in the future.
All of us at Historic Langhorne Association would like to wish you a very Happy New Year! We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events in the future.
